 The Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians (herein named the Federation), based in the UK and with international reach, is a collaboration between the:

  • Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh
  • Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow
  • Royal College of Physicians of London

 Collectively, the colleges represent more than 50,000 physicians worldwide. For physicians in the UK and globally, the colleges provide an invaluable professional network, opportunities to share best practice and ongoing educational opportunities.

The Federation’s purpose is to support the three colleges in delivering core shared services including:

  • the MRCP(UK) Diploma Examinations, the PACES practical examination and Specialty Certificate Examinations (SCE’S)
  • the Joint Royal College of Physicians Training Board (JRCPTB) which is responsible for managing the Colleges’ role in the regulation of specialist training in the UK
  • the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Policy and Diary for Physicians

 Working closely with the Federation Head of IT, the Project Manager will provide support for a digital transformation programme delivering new academic systems to enable the Federation to support physicians throughout their training and career. The transformation will use an integrated modular solution to replace and integrate the current systems used by the Federation departments.

 Responsibilities

  • Ensure effective management, planning and delivery of a number of defined academic system transformation projects.
  • Play a central role in developing projects, including identifying new opportunities, strategy development, sourcing funding, and business planning.
  • Take responsibility for the day-to-day management and delivery of the agreed projects, including identification of emerging risks and issues, reporting on progress to the project funders, and managing project budgets.
  • Manage robust and effective governance processes for agreed projects, ensuring decisions are made or escalated where appropriate and projects maintain momentum.
  • Lead effective communication and collaboration with stakeholders to promote the outputs of the projects across the Federation and colleges.
  • Work with the digital transformation programme board to ensure adequate reporting into internal governance structures.
  • Review and evaluate the completed projects according to both the needs of the Federation and colleges.

 Experience

  • Significant project management experience
  • Experience of one or more major digital transformation projects
  • Demonstrated ability to take responsibility to drive forward to completion, complex and substantial projects that involve a range of stakeholders
  • Excellent co-ordination and organisational skills with the ability to multi-task and to communicate confidently
  • Outstanding communication, influencing and interpersonal skills
